Does Meditation Work

Meditation for Woman – The Wonderful Benefits and How to Do It by Susan Masters
Why Do Women Need to Meditate?
There are many women out there who have to be both housewives and career builders, at the same time. And this fact actually implies having two jobs, two stressful and challenging jobs that require 100% devotion and care. It is understandable why such efficient and dynamic women tend to get tired, to become irritated, less joyful or weak. And this is when meditation for woman is needed.
But besides all the above and besides the purpose of finding the strength in order to be able to accomplish all their roles (as wives, mothers, daughters) successfully, there is one essential role that meditation for woman has: it allows ladies to discover themselves and to remember that, above all, they are women. Meditation gives women the possibility of focusing on themselves for a change, to discover their inner life, emotions and feelings and to detach from all their additional roles.
What Good Does Meditation Do to Women?
But why is meditation so important to women especially? The benefits that apply to both genders, such as a better sleep, a better focus, better health and less worries or less stress, meditation affects women in another positive way: it can reduce a wide range of problems that affect women only, such as the effects of the premenstrual syndrome, tensions, migraines and even the stress caused by emotional problems.
How to Find the Best Meditation Technique for Women
There are numerous available methods and techniques when it comes to selecting the right meditation for woman. One of the most popular choices is represented by the “free your mind” type of meditation, which basically implies letting go of the entire negative, stressful or overwhelming thoughts, letting the mind “go silent”. This is the perfect meditation in case the woman wants to detach from the daily worries and let her mind “breathe” and enjoy quiet, lonely, moments.
In case the above method seems too boring or too hard to apply, there is the meditation on a concept method, which works great in case of women who want to rediscover themselves and to create a more meaningful and personal relation with the surrounding world. Basically, this method implies focusing on a fact, event, value and letting the thoughts come, develop and create meaningful scenarios.
Third of all, women the possibility of choosing active or “still” meditation exercises. Walking Meditation might be a good idea for ladies, in case they tend to get bored when standing still and meditating. But not any kind of walk is the right walk.
Finding a suitable path in a natural environment, starting with a good mood, taking a deep breath and enjoying all the sensations are the basic steps that need to be followed. Many women find this method the perfect one, considering that they are used to being active and dynamic at all times and can not simply stand still. In addition, walking is a perfect exercise, so it can have a wide range of positive effects upon mental and physical health.
If applied correctly and on permanent basis, meditation for woman has a wide range of positive effects that imply a better health, a better inner life and, in general, a better and more enjoyable life.

The Art of Divine Meditation $8.25 “I suppose that it is profitable, rather than bold, for me to endeavor to teach the art of meditation. It is as heavenly a business as any that belongs to either men or Christians. And it is such a heavenly business as does unspeakably benefit the soul. For it is by meditation that we ransack our deep and false hearts, find out our secret enemies, come to grips with them, expel them, and arm ourselves against their re-entrance. By meditation we make use of all good means, fit ourselves for all good duties. By meditation we see our weaknesses, obtain redress, prevent temptations, cheer up our loneliness, temper our occasions of delight, get more light unto our knowledge, add more heat to our affections, put more life into our devotions. It is only by meditation that we are able to be strangers upon the earth (as we are commanded to be), and by this we are brought to a right estimation of all earthly things, finally into a sweet enjoyment of invisible comforts. It is by meditation that we see our Saviour, as Stephen did; we talk with God, as Moses did; we are ravished into Paradise, with blessed Paul, seeing that Heaven that we shall be so loath to leave, which things we cannot utter. Meditation alone is the remedy for security and worldliness. It is the pastime of saints, the ladder to Heaven; in short, it is the best way to improve Christianity. Learn it, if you can. Neglect it if you so desire, but he who does so shall never find joy neither in God, nor in himself. And though some of old have appropriated this duty to themselves (confining it within their cells, professing nothing but contemplation), claiming their immunity from those cares which accompany an active life, might have thebest leisure for meditation, yet I deem it an envious wrong to conceal meditation from many, for its benefit may be universal. There is no man who is so taken up with action that he does not at some time have a free mind. And no reasonable mind is so simple as not to be able to better itself by secret thoughts. Those who have but little stock need best to know the rules of thrift. Surely divine meditation is nothing else but a bending of the mind upon some spiritual object, through different forms of discourse, until our thoughts come to an issue. And this must either be unpremeditated, occasioned by outward occurrences offered to the mind; or else it must be deliberate, wrought out of our own heart. And if it is deliberate, then it is either in matter of knowledge (for finding out some hidden truth, or overcoming some heresy by profound traversing of reason); or it is in matter of affection. Joseph Hall (July 1, 1574 – September 8, 1656), English bishop and satirist, was born at Bristow park, near Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire, on the 1st of July 1574. Joseph Hall received his early education at the local school, and was sent (1589) to Emmanuel College, Cambridge. Hall was chosen for two years in succession to read the public lecture on rhetoric in the school |

Catholic Does Not Equal the Vatican: A Vision for Progressive Catholicism $23.95 “A stirring manifesto for progressive Catholics and a challenge to Vatican politics, from pioneering feminist Catholic Rosemary Ruether–in the acclaimed “Does Not Equal” series. >”"In a truly just world, Rosemary Radford Ruether would be Pope.”"–from the foreword to “Catholic Does Not Equal the Vatican” by Susan Thistlethwaite, president of Chicago Theological Seminary >In the 1960s, the hopes for a blossoming progressive Catholicism awakened by the Second Vatican Council were cut short by conservative opposition and the rightward agendas of the previous and current pope. >Forty years later, “Catholic Does Not Equal the Vatican” heralds the revival of a newly democratic and participatory church that transcends narrow Vatican doctrine. Destined to be a seminal text of progressive Catholicism, this beautifully written and uncompromising book by renowned scholar and activist Rosemary Radford Ruether examines the serious moral contradictions in Vatican Catholicism and offers a vision of a faith committed to justice and peace. Ruether calls for the dismantling of sexist teachings and ascetic values, while promoting healthy sexual ethics and egalitarian communities that welcome women, gays, and lesbians into full equality in the church and even ordination. Reverend Doctor Susan Thistlethwaite’s introduction explains Ruether’s pioneering leadership in progressive Christianity and her unwavering commitment to ecological responsibility and human rights. >Grounded in her civil rights work in the Mississippi Delta and the Latin American tradition of liberation theology, Ruether’s long overdue vision of the church as it should be will serve as an inspiration for Catholics everywhere.” |

He’s not looking for love, just testing the waters to see if it’s possible to live a normal life again. The thought of it is turning his knees to jelly. Marlene Frost is a beautiful woman. She’s warm and funny, with a smile to match. After the first awkward minutes, Joe finally starts to think this isn’t such a bad idea after all. In fact, maybe this blind date will turn out to be one of the best things that ever happened to him. He couldn’t be more wrong. Because somehow, for reasons Joe can barely understand, this one evening will mark the beginning of a new nightmare. |

Apocalypse 2012: The Ticking of the End-Time Clock: What Does the Bible Say? $14.99 “Could recently fulfilled Biblical prophecy and significant recent events indicate that the countdown to Revelation has begun? Author John Claeys (Th.M., Dallas Theological Seminary), a long-time student of Bible prophecy, has keenly watched developments in the Middle East line up to usher in Gods “day of the Lord,” a special seven-year era immediately preceding Jesus return to establish Gods kingdom on the earth. As a result, Claeys felt compelled to present a clear, chronological presentation of near-future events described in the Bible in order to help people prepare for Christs return. This book has been written in such a clear format, it could have been entitled, “Prophecy for Dummies,” as those knowing little about the Bible will be able to clearly understand Gods plan for the future by reading its presentation. In addition, avid students of Bible prophecy will be amazed at the fascinating insights offered in this work. But be warned: exposure to this information could be life-changing, moving the reader to draw near to the One responsible for orchestrating the incredible events described in this book. As one reviewer wrote, “Author John Claeys takes readers on a journey into the near future where they encounter the ultimate battle of good versus evilof Satans king of the world overcoming the prophets of God, of war breaking out in heaven and of the armies of the earth banding together to launch an assault upon Gods King as He comes to the earth to claim His kingdom. . . This book] is a careful exposition of Biblical passages describing a real, seven-year period leading to the return of Jesus Christ to the earth” (Dr. Earl Radmacher, theologian, author, general editor of the NKJV Study Bible). The story opens with a brief period in which the world will believe it has achieved “peace and security,” but then “sudden destruction” will occur setting off wars, Gods judgments and a very unique seven-year period which will lead to the return of Christ to establish Gods kingdom upon the earth. This is the first of many twists and turns in this true plot of the future. Surprises include the fate of two prophets who will powerfully serve God, another regarding the incredible and lightening ascent of Satans man from apparent obscurity in the Middle East. This will spiral into worldwide rule, war breaking out in heaven, 144,000 of Gods people fanning out across the globe to reach the nations in spite of Satan attempting to eliminate them and the nations of the earth squaring off to battle against Christ Himself at His return. But with all of the surprises and the adventure of this story, it is really about God accomplishing His kingdom plan, even through Satanic conflict and resistancefor the good of believers and for the good of the world. It is a story of triumph, hope and inspiration. In the epilogue, the author answers the question regarding how soon this seven-year period may come upon the world. With solid reasoning and facts, Claeys begins by a |

Biblical truths that can free you from the fear and guilt that has turned your life into a nightmare. Then this is a must read. Real questions answered, such as; Where did dinosaurs come from? What about cave men? Where did Jesus come from, and, how does salvation work? What does God really expect of me? What happens if I can’t live up to it? Is it all right to have sex with my boyfriend? What kinds of sex acts are Christians allowed? What does Jesus want me to do tomorrow morning? Would the answers to these questions make your life a little simpler? This book shines a new light on controversial subjects and flies in the face of some church traditions. But it’s wisdom and candor can set many free from the past. Although he has authored many workshop periodicals over the years, this is his first full-length work. The Faith-Work Window $17.99 “”As an executive MBA professor and active researcher, writer and workshop leader in the faith-work/workplace ministry arena, I have come into contact with a considerable number of related books. Many I have read and given away, some I have kept and read carefully, and a few I read over and over. I will do all three with this book, and it will become required reading for my executive MBA capstone seminar.” – Tom A. Buckles, Ph.D., Crowell School of Business, Biola University, La Mirada, CA. “Dr. Bouch convinces us that it is the role of Christian character to place a high regard on the value of work . . . the integration of faith and work results in full Christian personhood.” – Rev. Cathie P. Young, St. James Anglican Church, Newport Beach, CA. How does your Monday affect your Sunday? Sure, we’ve heard a lot about how “Sunday affects Monday”-faith carried to the workplace-but what about using your profession as a catalyst for a stronger faith? Most Christians aren’t even aware of how their faith and work lives connect. A tragic omission, says author Richard Bouch. Instead, he proposes Christians view the working life as a key part of a vital, vigorous, and effective Christianity in the twenty-first century. Through Bouch’s insights and guidance from some of Christianity’s best thinkers, you will discover how your job is actually key to purposeful character development and victorious spiritual formation.” |

Life and Livelihood: A Handbook for Spirituality at Work $16 “Many working people may have the uneasy feeling that when they clock in every morning, they check their “real selves” at the door. Caring, compassionate, generous human beings who look after families and volunteer in the community take on the values of the workplace, where fierce competition may trump kindness and concern. People who might exercise all the best attributes of Christianity in action often feel they have to put on alter egos that fit into a business world that may be less in tune with Christian values. It’s the kind of great divide that makes people yearn for greater connection between their “at-work selves” and their “at-home selves.” And it’s led to the formation of the “spirituality at work” movement, helping those eager to align their spirituality with their professional lives. This book provides the nuts and bolts of running a workplace spirituality group. It offers hands-on information about everything from forming a group to facilitating a meeting, and even includes detailed agendas for 45-minute meetings. With the easy-to-use agendas, participants explore such questions as “Can our work be sacred?” “What is real wealth?” and “How does language shape our values?” Life and Livelihood is designed to be respectful of–and applicable to–those of most faith traditions, although Christian themes, images, and references predominate.” |

Meditation, Confession and Healing in Writing Testimonies $14.99 “MEDITATION, CONFESSION AND HEALING IN WRITING TESTIMONIES This book is about the role of Bible meditation, confession and resolution through writing testimonies, which is a personal reflection on the word of God. This is a vital part of spiritual discipline that can lead to spiritual formation and development and yield great benefits in a Christian’s spiritual growth including the healing of the whole person. “Dr. Samuel D. Lee’s insightful book explains the inductive method of Bible study and the importance of meditation and confession. He explains very well the value of testimony writing. Meditation is prayerfully thinking about (and sometimes writing about) the contents of the Bible passage. Confession is not only confession of sin; it is also confession of faith and confession of praise and thanksgiving to God. He emphasizes the importance of writing and sharing in building up one’s own faith and the faith of others. I believe that this book can be very helpful to the person who seeks to make his personal Bible study more meaningful.” – Sarah Barry, Co-founder of University Bible Fellowship “I believe that Dr. Samuel D. Lee has without doubt written in lucid style the essentials of Christian disciplines of meditation in writing. This book is a must for all who desire to grow in their spiritual development in personal meditation.” – Dr. David P. Lavigne, General Superintendent, The Evangelical Christian Church in Canada “Unquestionably this book is a significant contribution to the Christian church in postmodern time presenting an effective and persuasive way of spiritual formation and influential discipleship, shown in the case illustration of the practice.” – Augustine Suh, Ph.D., Professor in Systematic Theology, Midwest University Samuel D. Lee, Ph.D., Bethany Divinity College & Seminary, is a missionary, Bible teacher and Biblical counsellor in Canada and an ordained pastor.” |
